Emerging Leaders Program (ELP)
Did you know that the #1 criticism employers have about
UW graduates is that they don’t know how to work with people
different than themselves?
Learn about yourself as an individual...
How individuals create groups...
and how those groups create community with:
- Different opinions
- Different ethnicities
- Different personality styles
...and much more!
How it Works:
Brought to you by the Student Leadership Program, Emerging Leaders
is an eight week series of interactive workshops for freshmen and
sophomores that focus on leadership skill development. These workshops
are based on the Social Change Model of Leadership and provide
you with an out-of-classroom learning experience that can be applied
to
many
aspects of your
life. With a unique and very hands-on teaching approach, Emerging
Leaders has become one of SLP’s most popular programs with
an average class size of 25-30 people. Each week focuses on a different
topic and allows participants to explore themselves while having
fun and meeting other people on campus. While the program is aimed
toward a freshman & sophomore audience, it is open to all UW-Madison
students free of charge. Registration is encouraged but not required.
Topics Include:
This course is divided into three areas: 1) Self, 2)
Working in groups, and 3) Working within a community.
Past topics have included: consciousness of self, commitment, collaboration,
congruence, controversy with civility, common purpose and citizenship.
