Other University RSO Electronic Support--
The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) provides the following
computer support to all Registered Student Organizations.
Each of these services
is described in detail below.
1) Organizational email accounts
2) Email expansion lists, which
allow email messages to be distributed en masse to a list of
RSO members
3) Website space for RSOs
4) Software training classes
designed specifically for student organizations
5) Access
to the WiscCal Plus calendaring system
SSFC (Student Segregated Finance Committee)-funded RSOs also
receive additional technical support of hardware and software.
These groups may request technical support by contacting DoIT's
RSO Coordinator at support@studentorg.wisc.edu or 608/265-6537.

Organizational Email Account
Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) can receive an organizational
Email address through the Division of Information Technology
(DoIT). Email that is
sent to the organizational address can be forwarded to up
to three student contacts that the RSO designates. Using forwards,
designated email contacts for the RSO can respond to the Email,
but return
messages will be sent under the name/address of that student,
not the RSO's address. Organizational email accounts are listed
as orgname@studentorg.wisc.edu.
The advantage of an organization RSO address is that you can
choose an address that reflects your organization and will
be easier for members or prospective members to remember. If
the primary contact person is using the Email software provided
by DoIT, it is possible to "filter" messages so that
messages sent to the organization address can be stored and
retrieved separately from messages sent to the personal address
of the primary contact person. For help with filtering, more
information on Email accounts for student organizations, or
to set up an account, contact the DoIT RSO computer support
person at support@studentorg.wisc.edu or
visit the web page at: doit.wisc.edu/students/org.asp.
To qualify for a student organization Email account, your organization
must be registered with the SOO. Then provide DoIT the following
information on the Email Application Form
* Registered Student Organization name
*Up to three email addresses to receive forwarded organizational
email
* Name of the owner of the account and their relationship to
the RSO
* The name you would like to call the account (shorthand way
to
identify your group followed by @studentorg.wisc.edu)

Email Expansion Lists of RSO Members
RSO email distribution or "expansion" lists are offered
to RSOs through DoIT. This list service allows you to choose
one Email address that reflects the name of your RSO. All messages
sent to this address are distributed to RSO members who appear
on a list that is created and maintained by the RSO's primary
contact person.
RSOs can set up Email expansion lists to facilitate group communication
and information sharing among group members. Private expansion
lists are usually reserved for an Email list of more than 50
persons and public expansion lists are more appropriate for groups
of less than 50. RSOs setting up expansion lists are subject
to University policies governing their operation. Expansion lists
must have a student owner who is responsible for maintaining
the list and a faculty/staff contact person. Ownership of an
expansion list may involve considerable time in the case of a
large list and much less time for a smaller list. To set up a
list or for more information, contact the DoIT RSO computer support
person at wisclist@doit.wisc.edu or
visit the web page at:
doit.wisc.edu/lists/wisclist/index.asp.

Website Space for RSOs
DoIT offers web hosting to Registered Student
Organizations free of charge. To obtain organizational website
space, a student organization must first have completed the organization
registration requirements with the Student Organization Office
(SOO).
RSOs NOT having a DoIT RSO website in 06-07:
Once the primary student contact has received notice from SOO
that their registration
application has been approved, s/he may go to the RSO web hosting
website at webhosting.doit.wisc.edu/rso/ to
request website space. The primary student contact for your
group must make the request.
The primary student contact person for each RSO will then be
provided access to the ID/password used to publish. Then s/he
will then decide who has access to publish to the website within
their organization, such as a webmaster.
RSOs already having a DoIT RSO website in 06-07:
If your RSO already had a DoIT RSO website last year (ex: MYSITE.rso.wisc.edu)
but last year’s primary student contact did not pass on
the ID/password for the existing site, the new primary student
contact person can email: rso-webadmin@www.wisc.edu and
they will be provided the ID/password used to publish.
More Info: Go to the RSO web hosting website
(webhosting.doit.wisc.edu/rso/)for complete technical documentation
and to view all the features
available to your RSO website, such as password-protected information
for members or officers only, email forms, web statistics,
and more. Email rso-webadmin@www.wisc.edu with any further
questions.

While STS offers many standard computer classes, we also have
staff qualified to teach other topics. For information on setting
up a special request class for 8 or more students, fill out the
web request form, Software
Training for Students. If your RSO
needs instruction on a subject not listed among our classes,
please contact us at sts@doit.wisc.edu.

WiscCal Plus Calendaring System for RSOs
RSOs can use WiscCal Plus to set up membership and other meetings,

and even reserve a room and equipment for a meeting. WiscCal
is the free campus wide calendar program that can access the
schedules of all UW-Madison students, faculty and staff. For
