Publicizing Your Organization and Events:
Guidelines For Relatively Inexpensive
Or Free Publicity
To Publicize in the University Residence
Halls
Guidelines for posting in undergraduate Residence
Halls:
- Registered Student Organizations, as well as faculty/staff offices,
are allowed to post information about programs or events in residence
halls. Agencies or individuals unrelated to the University are
not permitted to post.
- No commercial solicitation is allowed in the advertisement.
- Postings need to advertise a program or an event. A flier espousing
a viewpoint only will not be approved for posting.
- Candidates for public office can request to post fliers in the
residence halls by creating a Registered Student Organization.
That organization can then request permission to post information
in the halls about a specific candidate.
- To receive permission to post, submit a copy of the flier to
the Assistant Residence Life Director in Room 20 Slichter. If
permission is granted, you can then leave 70 posters and Housing
will distribute them to the staff for posting. These posters should
be submitted at least 7-10 days prior to your event.
Mailbox Stuffers:
- If you wish to reserve a date, contact the following email
address: mailboxstuffer@housing.wisc.edu
- Once a date is confirmed and reserved, RSOs then drop off the
appropriate # of stuffers on the weeday prior to the reserved
date.
- The RSO needs to have their organization name printed on the
stuffer to ensure accuracy.
- Any stuffer that is not for all residents, such as all women
or all men, will need to be sent through US mail.
- Stuffers do not need mailing labels.
- Additional limits on use, such as how often an RSO can stuff
mailboxes, will be determined by the Residence Halls Advisory
Board early in the academic year.
- Desk staff will do a maximum of 2 stuffers per desk per day,
Monday through Friday.
- Additional questions can be directed to mailboxstuffers@housing.wisc.edu
or call 262-8251.
Door-to-Door:
- Door-to-door contact with residents is prohibited.
For more information publicizing your event, contact Larry Davis,
Assistant Residence Life Director, at 608/262-0914.
